[dropcap]N[/dropcap]aughty Dog has unveiled brand new details about the upcoming story expansion DLC for The Last of Us whilst also announcing a new instalment to the Uncharted series.
The dual announcement came during the Spike TV’s PS4 All Access Show on Thursday night and was later detailed on PlayStation’s official blog. Two teaser trailers were released for both instalments.
As promised by Naughty Dog on Tuesday, gamers were able to find out who they would be controlling as Naughty Dog’s Creative Director, Neil Druckmann, said on Twitter they will be taking the helm of a new character. The DLC, titled “The Last of Us: Left Behind”, is a prequel to Last of Us and follows original co-protagonist Ellie – voiced again by Ashley Johnson – and takes place while she is attending a military boarding school in the Boston quarantine zone.
Alongside her is new character, Riley, Ellie’s best friend and mentor of sorts at the same boarding school. Players will follow their story adventure through a series of events that changes them both forever. Riley is voiced by Yaani King.
Arne Meyer, Community Strategist for Naughty Dog, promised that the new content will feature the same quality and gameplay of the original whilst players can also expect a few surprises along the way.
Whilst no specific release day was announced, Arne said that the company hope to release it in early 2014. Left Behind will be included in The Last of Us Season pass, which also includes the multiplayer DLC launched a few months ago. If players wish to only play Left Behind on its own, it is available for pre-order starting on November 19 on the PlayStation Store for $14.99 – roughly £10 for UK players.
If that wasn’t enough, a special surprise announcement also came when Naughty Dog released a teaser trailer – voiced by Todd Stashwick, as a mysterious character – for a brand new instalment of the action-adventure series Uncharted.
The game is currently in development and is to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 4. No further details nor a expected release window was announced but Arne promised players an amazing experience just like in previous instalments.
She said: “Our goal is to continue what we’ve done in previous console generations and once again deliver the best in storytelling, performance capture, technical innovation and graphics on the PS4.”
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was a worldwide success, earning critical acclaim from around the world, won several Game of the Year awards and, as of the beginning of November, has shipped 6.02 million units, according to VGChartz.
The Last of Us, released in May this year, also earned critical acclaim worldwide for its incredibly impressive debut. It recently won Best Storytelling and Best Newcomer at the Golden Joystick Awards whilst its studio, Naughty Dog, was presented with Studio of the Year. And it’s incredibly hard to argue against those accolades.
