The King’s Speech reigned supreme last night at the Baftas. Winning Best Picture, Best Actor (for Colin Firth), Best Supporting Actress (for Helena Bonham Carter), Best Supporting Actor (for Geoffrey Rush) Best Screenplay as well as Outstanding British Film. Tom Hooper’s biopic, detailing King George VI’s troublesome journey to cure his stammer, was the ultimate winner of the night. Read our review here.
Other winners included David Fincher for his directing work on The Social Network, Toy Story 3 won best animation while Natalie Portman deservedly won Best Actress for her performance as Nina in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan.
The Harry Potter series was recognised with a prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Cinema award (presented by the hugely likeable Stephen to both J. K. herself and the cast and crew behind the cinematic saga) while Christopher Lee was bestowed with an Academy Fellowship.
As ever the fashion world looked to the red carpet and stars didn’t disappoint. Emma Watson looked elegant in her nude number while Jessica Alba wore a summer blue ensemble. Jonathan Ross hosted the evening which suffered a slight hiccup when Rosamund Pike took to the stage. Having already fluffed her lines, co-presenter Dominic Hooper looked less than impressed when she almost prematurely announced the contents of the awards envelope. Oops.
