Bombay Talkies and Monsoon Shootout to be screened at 2013 London Indian Film Festival

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he full programme of this year’s London Indian Film Festival has been announced, and boy do they have some treats in store for all movie lovers! Running from 18-25 July, Amit Kumar’s thriller Monsoon Shootout will open the grand festival which is currently in its fourth year. Bombay Talkies, which has been directed by Karan Johar, Dibikar Bannerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap, will be screened at the closing ceremony. We have been promised that special guests will be present at both events so do make that time to book your tickets! Both these films were screened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and received unanimous acclaim from the critics and audiences. They will both premiere in the UK for the first time during this festival, which makes it all the more special.

The programme also includes screenings of films in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada and Marathi. The winner of the prestigious Satyajit Ray Short Film Competition will also be announced at the end of the festival. In addition, the London Indian Film Festival will bring Indian cinema to Bradford and Glasgow for the first time ever, so keep a look out for this!

Other feature events include a special master class with renowned actor Irrfan Khan at the British Film Institute, London (BFI) on Saturday 20 July. Khan has branched into Indian, British and Hollywood cinema during his hugely successful career, with films such as Slumdog Millionaire, Paan Singh Tomar, Mumbai MeriJaan and Life of Pi transforming into award-winning hits. If that wasn’t enough, there will also be a ‘Life in Pictures’ master class with legendary South Indian filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan on Friday 19 July at the BFI.
