[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ne of the most high-profile film events to take place in the UK, the 4th London Indian Film Festival (LIFF), returns for another season of exciting and spicy independent films. Taking place from 18-24 July 2013, the festival will be showcasing not just Bollywood, but also films in other Indian regional languages which will provide a more realistic view of the subcontinent.
A number of World and UK premieres will also be taking place during the LIFF, as well as events and musical pieces. It has already been confirmed that Indian actor Irrfan Khan will be one of the headline figures of the LIFF and will be participating in a special centrepiece master class. Khan has made his mark not just in Bollywood, but also in Hollywood and British Cinema with films such as Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi, The Warrior, The Amazing Spiderman and Paan Singh Tomar; the latter resulting in him winning the National Film Award for Best Actor.
Speaking about the upcoming event, Cary Rajinder Sawhney (Founder of LIFF) had this to say in a press release. “It’s great to be working on the zeitgeist of new Indian cinema and we aren’t just showing Indian films for Indian audiences, but kicking open the door to the rich diversity of independent cinema emerging across the Indian subcontinent today. These films are accessible to everyone! It’s also exciting to see some of the best of the filmmakers we have helped champion, now starting to be recognised on the world stage, where they belong. We are very proud to be showcasing these new films here, first, in London, surely the world’s number one city of culture, style and innovation.”
The full programme of the LIFF will be announced on 18 June 2013. Stay tuned to Roobla, as we will be bringing to you all the latest news and updates with regards to what is fast becoming one of the most prestigious film events to take place in Europe alone!
The LIFF is supported by partners, including O2 International Sim, British Film Institute (BFI), Satyajit Ray Foundation, Cineworld and Grange Hotels.
