[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t is the beginning of a new year. People are back at work and have started school again. They are embracing their old habits and falling back into routines. Waking up early in the morning and going to bed early at night. Getting things done; necessary things that people need to get done to prevent stress and agony. Some are happy with that New Year’s Resolution-look at life; improving themselves by getting a gym card or learning how to use the word “no” more frequently. The “your time is precious, do not let people steal it from you”-kind of thing. Then there is the other group of people; the fidgeting ones. Let us just say that some of us are satisfied with just restarting ourselves while some of us crave a master reset.
You could easily claim that the year of 2012 was the year of silver screen comebacks. Search the internet for the top films from last year and the evidence will be right in front of you. A record of “2”s and colons and “been there, done that and did it yet again since the first time went well”s will be found in those indexes. Some were incredibly successful at the box office; who will ever forget Mr. Bond’s piercing blue eyes in Skyfall or Bane’s muffled voice in The Dark Knight Rises? The new kid in The Bourne Legacy or good ol’ Gandalf in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey? The reunion of the American Pie characters, the Men in Black or the newly franchised Amazing Spider-Man? Those films definitely emptied a lot of wallets and saw a lot of popcorn eaten last year. Sadly, not all of the renewals managed to end up as winning concepts alongside the likes of that made by Christopher Nolan. The futures that might as well have remained pasts and the ones that became twos but actually could have remained zeros in the first place. With too much respect for other human beings, I shall stay silent and not name any of those cinematic failures. I will not bash Piranha 3DD (the piranhas actually managed to sneak into a water park this time, and in 3D…D), Taken 2 (Liam Neeson seems like a good guy, he does not deserve this), Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (no comment); I simply will not!
So how would you know when you are ready for a great comeback? When you have reached your absolute bottom and when things cannot get any worse? Batman knew it because Bane broke his back and Bond knew it when he got shot by accident.[/one_half]

How can you tell if you are ready for a start, an end or a comeback? Bilbo Baggins reckoned that his beginning was near when a grey wizard knocked on his door and Peter Parker probably had a hunch when he suddenly started wearing tights. The girls with the large breasts kind of figured it out when fish started to nibble on them… It was pretty much obvious to all of these characters.
Ever since I was a kid, I have adored superheroes. I used to wear my Spider-Man costume (a lot) and run around alone in the woods. My biggest wish was to have web fluid in my wrists. Ah, to be young. Now in older days, I still adore them. Mostly and probably because their everyday life is combined with really fucked up things.
For that is life as we know it too; a mix between the usual and the unpredictable that throws us off completely.
I am not saying that everyone has a tragedy to them but most of our life experience does not come served on a silver plate. It happens when you least expect it, and it shapes you like a hedge trimmer. When life hands you lemons you should make lemonade, right? Well, if life suddenly decides to hand you something a bit more bothersome than a sour fruit, you should still hold on to that principle. Things will get better if you allow them to do so. You may not be the happiest person on earth all of your life but honestly, that makes me happy. It would annoy the crap out of me if you were happy all of the time.
In films, if your hero falls down; you always know that he or she will rise up again. Well, guess what? If you let the bad things in life strengthen you, the good things will make you feel even stronger. And that, my fellow fidgeting friends, is when you make your comeback.[/one_half_last]
