Transformers 4 will have a new star. Farewell Shia, as the new kid on the block is a Wahlberg (and not a kid at all). 41 year old Mark Wahlberg has confirmed that he will be stepping into Bumblebee’s yellow Camaro, for the next instalment of the robotic franchise.
Hands up, who saw Transformers: Dark of the Moon? Well we at Roobla did, and although we love a good spat between the Autobots and Decepticons, it just failed to hit the mark. Was it the exclusion of Megan Fox for her ‘Hitler’ based comments about Michael Bay, or her replacement Rosie Huntington-Whiteley failing to rise to the occasion? Or maybe it was just the lacklustre storyline that failed to draw in the crowds. With Shia LeBeouf‘s Sam Witwicky trying to leave his dealings with the escapees from Cybertron behind him, he inevitably gets pulled back in to their mechanical world.
There’s no Shia at all in the fourth outing, as Bay attempts to ‘reboot’ the franchise, however the move to cast Wahlberg was one that Bay himself rebuffed only recently. Although it seems he had a change of heart, and was buoyed by working with the actor on the action comedy Pain & Gain, as he recently posted on his website “We had a blast working on Pain & Gain, and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his calibre is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.”
Of course there isn’t any news on the new direction that the film will be taking, or if any of the cast from the previous films will be returning. Chances are they will be left by the wayside along with Jazz and any other spare parts that have failed to make the cut. As with all of Bay’s reboots, retools or any other word du jour that gets bandied about, we’re going to just have to see how the cookie crumbles. That’s if the cookie makes it to 2014.
