We take a look at the red band Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters trailer.
We’re not going to lie, we’re intrigued by this movie on the Farm. It may not be quite as sophisticated as Bond’s latest outing Skyfall, but it looks like it isn’t set on taking itself too seriously and, perhaps most importantly of all, it looks fun. Taking the much-loved story of Hansel and Gretel and turning it on its head, the film presents a much darker version of the story children are used to.
Though recent attempts at having fun with well known characters at the cinema have faired badly (we look here primarily at the ill-received Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the screen adaptation of Seth Grahame Smith‘s vampiric twisting of Lincoln’s legacy), there are several reasons why Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters could do well.
Let’s look at the facts:
It stars Jeremy Renner
The man who has taken the reigns from Jason Bourne himself. He’s also appeared in Avengers Assemble and The Hurt Locker.
It also stars Gemma Arterton
Though she’s appeared in the likes of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans, Arterton has caught the attention of various critics.
It’s tongue in cheek
At least we hope it is.
It’s a fairytale gone gruesome
And who doesn’t like that?
There may some obvious made-for-3D moments and the sets may look a bit too staged but it looks harmless enough… right? Some people have already lambasted the film for jumping on the recent bandwagon of re-inventing fairytales (Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Huntsman), but sometimes cinema reinvents something well…
Of course trailers can be misleading… what are your thoughts? Are you excited for this? Let us know below!
Anyway, here’s the trailer and you can see the poster below. The film is set to be released 15th March 2013.
