It looked as though the character of Rogue had been completely cut out of the latest offering from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, but according to Buzzfeed Anna Paquin’s power-sapping mutant will indeed be appearing in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Last year director Bryan Singer confirmed that Rogue would not be in the film; she only appeared in one fight sequence, which had ended up on the cutting room floor. However, Paquin is credited on the newly released trailer for the film, and after some digging around Buzzfeed were able to confirm that she is indeed appearing in the film as Rogue, but only for a cameo.
Days of Future Past jumps around the X-Men timeline, taking place both in the near future and in the 1970s, and featuring the cast from Singer’s earlier X-Men films as well as the prequel X-Men: First Class. This means we’re going to have two versions of a lot of characters running around the place, including two Magnetos (played by Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen). Clearly there’s going to be a lot to squeeze into the runtime, which is probably why Rogue was dropped in the first place, and why she’s only back for a cameo appearance now.
According to Vulture, Rogue won’t be the only erstwhile X-Man to pop up in the new movie for a few seconds – there will be three quick cameos from other characters, but apparently ‘To even hint at their identities…would reveal a major spoiler’, so perhaps we’ll let sleeping mutants lie and wait for the film’s release, which will be on May 22nd in the UK.
