Radamel Falcao will be desperate to start his Chelsea career with a bang when his new side face Swansea City on Saturday.
The Columbian striker, on loan from Monaco, has endured a torrid time since injuring his knee last year. After missing the World Cup in Brazil, ‘El Tigre’ moved to Manchester United with the aim of earning himself a permanent deal. However, the marksman only managed four goals in 26 appearances and the Old Trafford club decided against offering the striker a new contract.
Regarded as one of the most prolific strikers in European football, Falcao will now be looking to get back to form and it could be possible that his new manager, Jose Mourinho, is the man to bring the forward back to his best.
The front-man single handedly dismantled Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in 2012, scoring three goals for Atletico Madrid in a 4-1 victory and ‘The Special One’s’ man management style could be key in tapping into Falcao’s unquestionable goal scoring ability.
Blues’ Captain John Terry is certainly delighted by the Columbian’s arrival and is confident he can help the Premier League Champions defend their crown. Terry told Sky Sports:
‘His movement is unbelievable and literally two minutes into the game we played against Manchester United last season I turned to Gaz (Cahill) and said ‘we need to be on it today.’
‘Now I have seen him first hand in training on a daily basis and his finishing is unbelievable. I think if he gets a run in the side he can reproduce his form of the past.’
Falcao, who spent the summer on Copa America duty with his national side, will be hopeful of turning his initial loan deal into a permanent one at Stamford Bridge. He will, however, have to show better form than he did during his first season in English football.
