BBC Radio 1 Celebrates International Women's Day

BBC Radio 1 give us their way of celebrating International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day this weekend (March 8th), BBC Radio 1 is to host a 40-hour, female only line-up.

From Annie Mac’s superb weekend warm-up show, until Sunday morning when Gemma Cairney finishes her programme, via the 73-year old Annie Nightingale, who has been on the station longer than any other presenter – the station will feature the best in popular female DJ talent.

There are also female guest DJ’s such as Magda doing the Essential Mix and Jamz Supernova.

International Women’s Day has been going for over a century and is always on March 8th.  Somewhat surprisingly the country is a national holiday in Afghanistan, Uganda, Kazakhstan, Cambodia and Russia amongst others – but is largely symbolic in the more ‘progressive’ Western nations.
