Trailer Review: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

War, what is it good for?

The first teaser trailer for Peter Jackson’s third Hobbit movie has been revealed online. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is the conclusion of the story involving Bilbo trying to help the Dwarves retake their kingdom, Erebor (The Lonely Mountain.)

Bilbo (played again by Martin Freeman) and the Dwarves enter Erebor but awaken the dragon Smaug in the process. Smaug then leaves the Lonely Mountain with the intention of laying waste to the nearby settlement of Lake-town. Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans), a resident of Lake-town tries to prepare an army of men and elves to face this threat. To make matters worse an army of Orcs led by a mysterious necromancer have also waged war against the humans and elves. The scene is set for a huge battle involving men, elves, orcs, giant eagles and wargs.

The trailer has an ominous tone as everyone is preparing for war and the stakes are high. Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) the leader of the dwarves tries to rally his troops for the battle while Bard tries to talk him out of it. Bard knows there will be many casualties and he doesn’t want to see his home town destroyed. There are also rumours spreading around that the mysterious necromancer is an old and very dangerous enemy. It’s an effective trailer featuring clips of various well known characters from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Most of the cast from the previous films will return including Ian McKellen, Lee Pace, Evangeline Lily, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom and Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug and the necromancer.

The film will be released on December 12, 2014 so check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
