Sin City 3 Already in the Works

In the run up to the release of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Robert Rodriguez has hinted that a 3rd Sin City film is already on the cards

Robert Rodriguez, director of both Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, has hinted that a third film might already be in the works. Rodriguez told Total Film that he has discussed the possibility with his co-director Frank Miller, who also created the comics the films are based on.

“We’ve already talked about a third film and what stories it would involve…We haven’t written it out yet, but we know what stories we’d do, which ones would be original and which ones would be adapted.”

The first Sin City sleazed its way onto our screens in 2005, and the wait for a sequel has been nine years too long for many of us. While it wasn’t big on award winning, the film remains a strong favourite with fans and was very well received by critics (it was nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes, and won the Technical Grand Prize there for its incredible use of visual shaping).

A Dame to Kill For was on the cards almost as soon as production wrapped on the first film, but principal photography did not begin until two years ago. The film is made up of four segments, two of which (A Dame to Kill For and Just Another Saturday Night) are taken from Miller’s comics, and three of which are prequels to the first film.

Film one also boasted a brilliant ensemble cast, including Brittany Murphy and Michael Clarke Duncan, both of whom have unfortunately died in the gap between productions, meaning their roles have had to be recast.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will be released in the UK on August 29th, and is one of this year’s most hotly anticipated films; let’s just hope we won’t have to wait another nine years for film three.
