Carrie Fisher Fans the Flames

Carrie Fisher has set more rumours flying after saying she will be returning for Star Wars VII

Star Wars fans have yet another piece of good news. Carrie Fisher is ready to resurrect the iconic hair style and step in to the classic gold bikini, as she signs for Episode VII. Or has she?

“No, wait Leia!”

It seems like only yesterday that Luke and Leia wove their way through the Forest Moon of Endor on commandeered speed-bikes. Now four decades later, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that she has signed up for Star Wars VII. 2013 has certainly started with a bang for fans of the series, as more and more confirmations spill from Hollywood. With spin-off stories galore, the new Disney run Star Wars is slowly whipping fan-boys into a fevered frenzy, and news that Fisher would be back as the feisty Princess Leia would certainly be some of the icing on their cake.

She told Palm Beach illustrated “She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home,” after giving a simple “yes” to the all-important ‘are you returning’ query. When pushed on what Leia would be like since the end of her resistance days, she said “I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”

However, all may not be as clear cut as you’d think as her rep has hastily added that Fisher was only joking. No stranger to stand-up comedy, Fisher could very well be leading us on, but other news points to a more positive outcome. Her ‘confirmation’ comes hot on the heels of Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill hinting he will also be returning. He also revealed that George Lucas had sounded out the cast on their interest. This has since been confirmed by Lucas in an interview with Bloomberg Business Week where he revealed “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation”.

It seems he may have had a moment of reflection on what he was saying, as he then followed it with “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them. I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.” LucasFilm neither confirmed, nor denied the story, which therefore fanned the flames of the growing fire.

As with most recent Star Wars news, it all seems to be awaiting a definitive confirmation. Rumours will keep swirling until an official announcement is made. Until then, these aren’t the droids we’re looking for, move along. Jedi mind tricks can solve everything…
