This month sees the release of some brand-new games including a few roguelike-medoidvania style RPGS. A retrofuturistic Bioshock (2007) style game kicks things off this month and towards the end of August we see multiple releases within a short space of time.

 

WE HAPPY FEW

Platform: PlayStation, Xbox One, PC

Release: 10th August

Set in a drug fuelled, dystopian city, We Happy Few is a game about paranoia and survival. In the aftermath of an alternative World War II, you play through the intertwined narratives of three rebellious citizens who have to blend in with the artificially enthused society of Wellington Wells if they want to survive and escape the retrofuturistic city.

We Happy Few will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 10th August.

 

DEAD CELLS

Platform: PlayStation 4, Switch

Release: 17th August

Dead Cells is a minimalist game only offering small amounts of information to the player. Controlling a mass of cells that occupies a dead prisoner, players must navigate their way through and figure out what is happening on the sprawling and ever changing cursed island. Tough combat, challenging enemies, and permadeath make for a demanding action game.

Dead Cells will be available on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on 17th August.

 

SHENMUE I & II

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Release: 21st August

Originally released in 1999 and 2001, Shenmue I & II have been remastered and coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Stepping into the shoes of Ryo Hazuki who witnessed the murder of his father, players explore an immersive and interactive open world following Ryo on his journey for vengeance.

The double pack of Shenmue I & II will be released on 21st August.

 

WARHAMMER 40,000: INQUISITOR MARTYR

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Release: 24th August

Set in the dystopian 41st millennium, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr places you into the grim future where you must face off against heretics, xenos, and demons of the Chaos Gods. Set as an open-world sandbox, a huge variety of missions are available in a storyline that is influenced the Warhammer community. Explore the vast universe, solo or in in a team of four, and take on brutal and tactical combat.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor Martyr will be available as a standard edition or the Imperium Edition, which gets you the season pass, a steel book, and exclusive in game content in addition to the base game. The game is set to be released on 24th August.

 

MONSTER HUNTER GENERATIONS ULTIMATE

Platform: Switch

Release: 28th August

An HD port of Monster Hunters Generations (2015) and it’s expansion Monster Hunter XX (2017), Monster Hunters Generations Ultimate marks the Monster Hunter series debut on Nintendo Switch. Taking on the role of a hunter, players can face off against the largest roster of monsters of the series to date either solo or with friends to defend villages against major threats. The game features classic Monster Hunter gameplay with new twists, brand-new areas and monsters as well as returning fan favourites.

Monster Hunters Generations Ultimate is a Switch exclusive and will be available on 28th August.

 

YAKUZA KIWAMI 2

Platform: PlayStation 2

Release: 28th August

A remake of 2006’s Yakuza 2, Yakuza Kiwami 2 is set 10 years after the 10 billion Yen incident of Yakuza (2005). Kazuma Kiryu has been living a peaceful life until an assassination threatens to erupt an all-out war between the Tojo Clan and Omi Alliance. Kiryu must attempt to restore peace between the rival clans, but Ryuji Goda will stop at nothing to get his war.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be available on PlayStation 4 on 28th August.

 

VICTOR VRAN: OVERKILL EDITION

Platform: Switch

Release: 28th August

Victor Vran is a demon hunter who is on a quest to liberate the cursed city of Zagoravia from a mysterious demon infestation. The Overkill Edition is an updated port of the original game and features DLC packs Fractured Worlds and Motörhead: Through the Ages

Victor Vran: Overkill Edition will be available on 28th August.

 

STRANGE BRIGADE

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Release: 28th August

In 1930s Egypt, the Witch Queen Seteki has risen once again from her unmarked tomb after being erased from history. Assuming the role of an adventurer, players must stand against Seteki and her army of mythological creatures while exploring ancient ruins, solving puzzles, and uncovering treasure. The game has an emphasis on multiplayer gameplay where you can team up with 3 other players or play solo.

Strange Brigade will be available as standard or as a collector’s edition. The collector’s edition will get you the base game, exclusive in-game content, a steel book, a collector’s edition box as well as a build your own airship model. Strange Brigade will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 28th August.

 

FIREWALL: ZERO HOUR VR

Platform: PlayStation 4

Release: 29th August

Firewall: Zero Hour takes full advantage of PlayStation VR and drops you into each mission with a full 360-degree view of the map. Players join one of two teams of mercenaries; The attackers, or defenders, whose mission is to either protect or destroy data housed on a laptop somewhere on the map.

Play solo or join a multiplayer team to train and test your skills while gaining XP. This XP will boost your competitive multiplayer progress preparing you to take on competitive co-op contracts. Pre-ordering the game will give you some in-game extras including cosmetic items, extra in-game currency, and a 24-hour slot for double XP. The game is also available as a bundle with the PlayStation VR aim controller which has precise tracking motion and intuitive controls to keep your shots accurate. Firewall: Zero VR will be released on 29th August.

 

NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER

Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Release: 31st August

The Naruto franchise is back with a new multiplayer experience. Built from the ground up to feature a brand new graphic style, new dynamic 3rd person gameplay lets players take full advantage of the arena environment. Play co-op in 4 v 4 based gameplay featuring fan favourite characters and teams from the Naruto series.

Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker will be available as a standard edition or the Uzumaki Edition. The Uzumaki Edition will feature the base game, season pass, and a collectable figuring of Naruto and Boruto. The game will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 31st August.

 

SHADOWS: AWAKENING

Platform: Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC

Release: 31st August

Set in a parallel universe that is inhabited by monsters and demons, play though over 60 hours of single player gameplay and witness a gripping storyline that has you seamlessly switch between realms. The game has plenty of replay value with its three characters having their own personal storylines, quests, and dialogue. Complex puzzles and tactical real time combat will have you putting acquired skills to full use.
