Open the record books once again for GTA V, as the action-adventure title has added yet another record to it’s already staggering catalog of records broken.
With the fourth anniversary of it’s original release in September 2013, Rockstar Games’ sprawling open world spectacle is currently the UK’s best selling boxed game in 2017, according to a new report.
The report by Entertainment Retailers Association noted GTA V outsold every other game in the UK during the first half of the year, selling 334,280 units by the end of June, beating high profile release DVD of Arrival, La La Land, Trainspotting 2, Fifty Shades Darker, FIFA17, Finding Dory and many others.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands was the second highest game on the list coming directly behind GTA V with 311,792 sales.
The news comes weeks following another record GTA V, when it topped the UK sales chart for the 13th time and almost four years after its release.
It was also named as “the biggest contributor to British economy” in gaming history.
Upon its release, GTA V quickly became the biggest entertainment launch in history, earning $800 million during its first 24 hours on sale.
Two days later it officially broke $1 billion in sales, beating major films such as The Avenger’s Assemble and Avatar.
Critically acclaimed worldwide, the BAFTA award winning title also out-sold GTA IV, beat The Last of Us as the biggest digital release on PlayStation, broke 7 Guinness World Records and won numerous Game of the Year awards.
The game would later go on to be re-released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
As of May 2017, it has currently sold over 80 million copies across all platforms.
