Classic retro video games including DoomSuper Mario Bros, and Pac-Man will be among the first inductees in the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

Established earlier this year, the 2015 Hall of Fame, hosted by The Strong – a collections-based museum devoted to the history and exploration of play – will recognise individual electronic games of all types including arcade, console, computer, handheld, and mobile that have enjoyed popularity over a sustained period and have exerted influence on the video game industry or on popular culture and society in general.

The Strong will induct it’s first six inductees after selecting them from 15 finalists which also included Angry BirdsFIFAThe Legend of ZeldaPokemon, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Space Invaders.

Announced yesterday, Pong, Pac-Man, Tetris, Super Mario Bros, Doom, and World of Warcraft were selected from the final 15.

All six inductees will now be on permanent view in The Strong’s Rochester, New York, museum’s eGameRevolution exhibit.

Nominations for the 2016 Hall of Fame will be accepted through to March 31, 2016.
