Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal have announced they are developing another sequel to the long running Deus Ex Series of games, tentatively titled Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

This will be the first sequel to the action-RPG series since 2012’s massively popular Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

According to Square Enix’s press release, “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes place in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution and the infamous ‘Aug Incident’ in Panchaea that resulted in the death of millions at the hands of those who had installed augmentations.

“This event has created a huge divide between those who have augmentations, and those who do not. Amongst this emotional turmoil are various factions looking to manipulate the public by twisting public opinion of augmentation to further their own agenda and hide the truth of what really happened.”

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will continue the story of Adam Jensen, the protagonist of Deus Ex: Human Revolution whom Square Enix describes as “a former biotech company security chief turned super-augmented, anti-terrorist agent [who plays] by his own rules.”

According to Square Enix, Jensen has been further augmented since Deus Ex: Humanity Revolution, allowing him and the player a greater sense of self control as they explore new in-game locations.

In terms of story, in the trailer above, we can clearly see that social and political tensions have reached a major turning point within the story, forcing Jensen into a confrontation with conspiracies surrounding the Illuminati – a constant antagonist throughout the fifteen year old series.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be released on the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and the PC.

No release date has, as of yet, been announced.
