The Last Guardian is not cancelled, a Sony executive has firmly stated.

Over the weekend rumours were swirling that the long awaited action-adventure title had been cancelled after a report by IGN Russia surfaced.

A source spoke to the IGN Russia and said The Last Guardian was cancelled following an internal meeting at Sony, publishers.

As the story gained worldwide attention on social media, Scott Rhode, PlayStation’s Software Production Development Head for Sony Worldwide Studios America, laughed off the report.

In reply to IGN Senior Editor, Colin Moriarty, he wrote: “And I laughed at this rumour over dinner. The Last Guardian has NOT been cancelled.”

Developed by Team Ico, the game follows a young boy and Trico, a giant creature, who work together to evade the pursuing guards trying to catch them both.

Originally announced in 2009 as a PS3 exclusive, the title has experienced several delays.
