New Batman: Arkham game being developed by Rocksteady Studios

Rocksteady Studios have returned to the Batman: Arkham franchise for the final instalment in the series, set for release this year.

A brand new Batman: Arkham video game is being developed by Rocksteady Studios, the latest issue of Game Informer revealed today.

Late last week rumours began flying around that a new instalment in the Batman: Arkham series was on it’s way after Kotaku reported that promotional materials had been shipped out to GameStop stores.

A picture featuring the Batman logo was leaked online also, fuelling the rumours.

Before today’s official announcement, Video Gamer also spotted a listing on UK retailer Game’s website which pointed to new instalment.

Just hours ago, Game Informer released their April cover which featured the first shots of Batman: Arkham Knight, currently set for release later this year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Rocksteady Studios were the previous developers of the 2010 critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum and it’s 2011 follow-up Batman: Arkham City.

The latest instalment in the series, Batman: Arkham Origins released in October, which was the first in the series to not be developed by Rocksteady Studios, with Warner Brothers Games Montreal taking the helm.

Since Arkham City, Rocksteady hasn’t developed any other game since.

Now the highly acclaimed developers are back with Batman: Arkham Knight which will end the Batman: Arkham series.

The game follows Batman as he faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever.

The magazine also revealed that the Batmobile will be a core element in the game with an entirely new area of Gotham City to explore.

An official trailer was also just released by Warner Brothers, shown above.

Make sure to pick up your April copy of Game Informer which sees 14 pages dedicated to the game featuring the first details.
