Superhero movies continue to rise in popularity and now a new one from Marvel called Guardians of the Galaxy is on the horizon. The film features a bunch of misfits from different planets who team up to fight a serious threat. A new trailer was released online for the movie recently and it is entertaining.
The trailer introduces an American space pilot called Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) who is arrested by space cops after stealing a precious artifact. It turns out that a villain called Ronan (Lee Pace) is also after the artifact or orb and he is keen to find Quill so he can take it. In jail, Quill meets an unusual bunch of misfits including a talking raccoon called Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper), a hulking brute alien called Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), an even bigger tree-like humanoid called Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) and a female alien warrior called Gamora (Zoe Saldana). The orb is apparently a very powerful McGuffin so Quill teams up with his new friends to protect it and keep it from falling into Ronan’s hands.
Guardians of the Galaxy is being directed by James Gunn and it also has a great supporting cast including John C. Reilly, Peter Serafinowicz, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro and Djimon Hounsou.
What makes the trailer stand out is its comedic elements and the fact the movie doesn’t appear to take itself too seriously. The Guardians in the trailer are introduced as they take part in a police line-up which is a great way to make an entrance. The cops talk about each character and explain to their colleagues how they are all outlaws wanted for a string of crimes. This introduction is similar to the Dirty Dozen which used the same idea to introduce the viewer to a bunch of convicts who are recruited for an important mission. The trailer also throws in a bit of action for the viewers and it succeeds at being both funny and thrilling.
The film will be released in cinemas on August 1st in the UK and US. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
