The Purge was one of those movies that had a ludicrous plot which stretched suspension of disbelief a bit too far. However, the concept of one night in the year where all crimes will go unpunished is good material for a horror/thriller movie. The film didn’t really make the most of this idea sadly but now a sequel is being made which may rectify the situation. A new teaser trailer for The Purge 2 aka The Purge: Anarchy has been released online and it looks interesting.
In the first film, a family sought shelter inside their well fortified home while the purge began outside on the streets. For twelve hours all laws were suspended and people were free to loot, kill and do what they want without fear of punishment. In this sequel a young couple (played by Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez) are trapped outside in a car that has broken down during the purge. There are no emergency services available and no police so the couple will have to fend off all the lunatics and nutters out for blood without assistance from the cops.
The Purge: Anarchy should give viewers a large scale view of the carnage that ensues when the purge is underway. It will be interesting to see what effect the purge is having on the city and how the people outside deal with all the killers and looters on the streets.
The trailer is decent as it introduces the main couple who become stuck outside when the purge begins. It also features a few shots of concerned residents in the city battening down the hatches and barricading themselves indoors. Masked psychos soon appear on the streets come nightfall and the stranded couple have to run for their lives. It’s a fairly eventful trailer which makes good use of its unusual plot to liven up this teaser and help it stand out.
Eager fans can catch the movie when it is released on June 20th, 2014 in the US and July 2nd in the UK. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
