A new trailer has landed for Wes Anderson’s comedy-drama called The Grand Budapest Hotel and it is very interesting. The director is well known for making films with unusual, quirky characters and this film follows that trend.
Ralph Fiennes plays a concierge called Gustave H who worked at the hotel mentioned in the title during the twenties. His sidekick, a lobby boy called Zero Moustapha shares in his adventures and then decades later tells a young writer played by Jude Law about them.
Gustave’s story is shown in flashback as Moustapha ( who is now an old man played by F. Murray Abraham) tells Jude Law’s character about one particular adventure involving a valuable painting and a murder. During the twenties, Gustave had a one night stand with an older woman called Madame D played by Tilda Swinton. She is then killed by a mysterious attacker and Gustave receives a valuable painting called Boy With Apple in her will. Madame D’s son Demitri (Adrien Brody) is jealous and annoyed that Gustave got the painting which he expected to receive himself when his mother died. He then frames Gustave for Madame D’s death as a way to get revenge. Gustave enlists the aid of Zero and also his lover Agatha (Saoirse Ronan) to help him hide the painting from Demitri and the cops. He then has to try to find a way to prove his innocence.
The film has a great cast including Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Tom Wilkinson, Willem Defoe, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Owen Wilson and Lea Seydoux.
The trailer is fun and entertaining as it shows off all the weird and wonderful characters who appear in the film. It also has some lovely, colorful cinematography by Robert Yeoman who has worked with Anderson before in the past. Nice cuts and camera pans are also used to switch from one character to another as they are all introduced one by one with colorful on-screen titles. It’s a trailer that manages to engage the audience without giving away any major plot details.
Fans can check out the film when it is released on March 7th, 2014. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
