He’s been putting the adventure into archaeology for well over three decades, and now fans of the whip-cracking Indiana Jones are safe in the knowledge that their hero will be played by no one else but Harrison Ford.
It had been rumoured that Jurassic World‘s Chris Pratt was set to take the reigns, but with a fifth ‘Indy’ movie always a possibility it has been decided that Ford is going nowhere.
But before this article leads you down the garden path completely, this does not mean that the actor will be swinging from ropes and dodging snake pits all over again – he is now 73 years young, after all. A fifth instalment would see Ford playing Dr Jones, but in more of a supporting role in a reboot where a new hero would be at the heart of the story.
And this is where Pratt is still hotly-tipped to step in. In an interview with Total Film magazine, producer Frank Marshall said: “There are a lot of rumours. We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet…at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could take the baton.”
Not to get too negative, but there’s a few franchises that have, shall we say, overstayed their welcome. This was demonstrated in spectacular fashion earlier this year by Terminator: Genisys, which also happens to be a fifth flick, so a new Indiana Jones project should be handled with care – especially as 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn’t exactly memorable.
Unless you’ve been on holiday to another galaxy, you’ll almost certainly be aware that Ford will be hitting the big screen as Hans Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December.
