Bill Murray back and busted

Original Ghostbuster appearing in next year's reboot

Do you want the good news or the really good news? We’ll cut to the really good news then, which is that Bill Murray will definitely be seen in next year’s reboot of Ghostbusters.

He will join fellow original cast member Dan Aykroyd, who had already been confirmed last month (that was the good news, albeit a bit late).

Both actors’ roles are still shrouded in mystery. It’s unlikely we’ll see them return as Peter Venkman and Ray Stantz, but instead they could well be playing two completely new characters – after all, the whole storyline centres around the good folks of New York City being blissfully unaware of any paranormal activity, at least to begin with.

One quarter of the awesome foursome who sadly won’t be making an appearance is Harold Ramis, who died suddenly last year. There is the possibility that Ernie Hudson could climb aboard, especially as he has had a change of heart over the whole affair, something that is certainly true of Murray. Even before the sudden passing of Ramis, which many presumed would extinguish any forlorn hopes, he was extremely reluctant to be involved in a third instalment due to the limited success of Ghostbusters 2, something that seemed to be compounded during an interview on the Late Show With David Letterman:

“I told them if they killed me off in the first reel I’d do it, so now they’ve figured out a way to kill me, but it’s crazy talk.”

Not only has there been this dramatic U-turn, but both Murray and Aykroyd are quite smitten with the all-female ensemble for the new film, which will hit cinemas on July 15, 2016. Speaking of which, what about Sigourney Weaver, who played Dr. Venkman’s love interest in the first two movies, making a comeback?

  • Hey Sam! I can't attach a feature picture to this post, is it something to do with my permission access on the new system? Best, Tom
  • Hey Sam, it's the new system, I'm just trying it out for my latest podcast episode with Greg Lucey and I'm trying to attach a picture - it uploads the picture and then says I don't have permission to attach it :(
  • Hi Tom, I'll look into this today. I think I already know what the issue is. It's because the media being uploaded is not associating itself to a post ID. Thank you for being my test dummy. At least this creation dialogue is working!!!
  • Hey Sam, I've tried again just now still the same issues I'm afraid :( I'd also look at the text editor I'm not sure if the texted/front is properly formatting at the moment (there's big gapes in the spacing, front size). If you want to jump around inside my draft and see what's what please do! I think I am going to use the legacy editor to upload today, but we can work  on testing and refining the new editor together :) Best, Tom
