[dropcap]T[/dropcap]om Hiddleston has been cast as a replacement for Benedict Cumberbatch in Crimson Peak.
Star Trek and Sherlock Holmes star Benedict Cumberbatch has dropped out of Guillermo Del Toro’s new gothic horror film Crimson Peak for reasons unknown. The good news is that he is being replaced by another top quality actor, as Tom Hiddleston has been cast in the role that was originally given to Cumberbatch. Hiddleston is a solid actor and he will no doubt bring something interesting to the project. He has appeared in some great movies, and is very popular as the super villain Loki in the Marvel films.
Apparently, Hiddleston told Buzzfeed that Cumberbatch gave him his blessing when the two actors spoke on the phone after Hiddleston was offered the role. Both actors are at the top of their game, and it’s nice to see they have respect for each other.
Crimson Peak is a project that has taken a long time to get off the ground; Del Toro wanted to make the movie years ago but didn’t have the time. The film is a gothic horror about an author called Edith Cushing who discovers her new husband is not what he seems. It also has a great cast including Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Burn Gorman and Charlie Hunnam.
Plot details are unavailable right now, but the movie sounds interesting. Del Toro has stated that the film will be classical but also a modern take on the traditional ghost story. He is also keen to subvert some of the rules and tropes in the horror genre. The film starts shooting in January and will no doubt be out late next year.
