Joseph Gordon-Levitt to be Cast in Marvel’s Guardians

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is rumoured to be up for a part in Marvel’s new project, Guardians of the Galaxy

With his brief but memorable role in The Dark Knight Rises, he seemed set to take the franchise in another direction.  Now there are rumours that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to star in Marvel’s new superhero extravaganza, Guardians of the Galaxy.

Labelled as the next Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy has everything a movie franchise could want.  Titan sized villains, tormented single-minded amnesiacs and of course a person born at a time when all the planets were in alignment.  Just your typical, run of the mill superhero team.  Now, capitalizing on the success of their previous offerings, Marvel is set to unleash The Guardians on to the big screen.  Cue crossovers.

Of course, there are always many names that get bandied about when a new motion picture is announced.  Not all will turn out to be correct, but as the well–known saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire.  The smoke in this instance is that Joseph Gordon-Levitt, fresh from sci-fi hit Looper, is in the running to play Peter Quill, or as he’s better known, Star-Lord.  No confirmation as of yet, but it is very early days for the film, which isn’t due to be released until summer 2014. Gordon-Levitt’s name isn’t the only one being mentioned; Smallville’s Lex Luthor Michael Rosenbaum and the US Office star John Krasinski are also in the frame.

One man who has been confirmed is director James Gunn, himself no stranger to superhero movies.  His 2010 release, Super starring Rainn Wilson, followed an everyday man who decides to become a fighter of crime, who doesn’t let his lack of superpowers hold him back.

As soon as we hear more we’ll let you know, so stay tuned, as this one could run and run.
