We like a good sing-along here at Roobla. Here’s our top 10 movies to sing along to.
- 10/10
My Fair Lady (1964)
Come on, get your best Cockney accents ready, who doesn’t love a bit of singing along to 'Wouldn’t it be Lurvely'? The brilliant film sees true beauty Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle and Rex Harrison as Professor Higgins belting out songs like 'I Could Have Danced All Night' and 'I’m Getting Married in the Morning'. Good mood film and great sing along.
- 9/10
Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
An interesting collection of wonderfully weird characters and even more catchy songs. Not a film for everyone’s taste, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and its mix of song, sex and dressing up has got people all across the globe holding themed parties, going to the stage show and having Rocky Horror nights out. This is an easy film to grab your feather bower and just sing your heart out to, come on, let’s do the time warp again!

Chicago (2002)
When Rob Marshall wanted to bring the successful stage show to the silver screen no one really knew what to expect. What happened was a revival in 20’s attire, killer black stockings and sharp haircuts. 'All that Jazz' is a great song for singing the house down when no one is watching you practising your jazz hands. A one, two, a one, two, three, four…
- 7/10
Dirty Dancing (1987)
This may not be your typical sing along movie, but who can honestly say they've sat watching it with their chocolate snacks and cup of tea and not belted out 'I’ve had the Time of My Life'? With classic songs such as 'Love Man', 'Overload' and 'She’s like the Wind', it is pretty much a grab your hairbrush film.
- 6/10
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
The third part of Baz Luhrmann’s Red Curtain trilogy set in the wonderful and sumptuous world of 18th Century Paris. Mixing period piece with contemporary songs, this feast for the eyes and ears boasts a brilliant mix of much-loved songs that everyone knows. It also made audiences fall in love with Ewan McGregor just that little bit more.
- 5/10
Hairspray (2007)
A film first and foremost by John Walters, and then a Broadway musical. It tells the popular story of Tracy Turnblad and features newcomer Nikki Blonsky who stars alongside veterans John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken. This is like candy with its sickly sweet taste yet adorable centre. The film features some brilliantly uplifting and catchy songs, notable 'You Can’t Stop the Beat'.
- 4/10
The Sound of Music (1965)
How do you solve the problem of always singing along to The Sound of Music? This classic family musical is timeless, hence it being shown every Christmas. It has that warm and fuzzy story combined with rather harsh times in its World War II setting. This is the perfect film to brighten your mood on a dull day or even when your are feeling a bit blue, because once you see Julie Andrews climb that mountain and belt out that opening note you’ll be jumping off the settee to join her.
- 3/10
The Lion King (1994)
From the first opening lines 'as the sun rises up in the sapphire sky' you know you are in the presence of something great. The Lion King is a phenomenal Disney film that few films can live up to. The film, loosely based on Hamlet, features some of the best songs in animation history written by the winning combination of Tim Rice and Elton John. Whether you saw The Lion King as a child or still love watching it now as an adult, those songs will always stay in your memory and you’ll sing along with a smile on your face or a tear in your eye.
- 2/10
Mamma Mia (2008)
Mamma Mia was a massive hit when released in cinemas and is still popular now on DVD (equipped with 'Sing Along' feature). Based on the hit stage musical that was originally formed using the songs of Abba to tell the story of a young woman called Sophie who doesn’t know who her father is, and her mum Donna who hasn’t quite let go of her one true love. It's fun, it's catchy and features some of the best written songs in pop history. Come on everyone, dust off your flares, grab your eyeliner and your hairbrushes and get ready for some Abba Magic.
- 1/10
Grease (1978)
The ultimate sing along film, who doesn’t know the songs to Grease? This brilliant musical, if anything the first High School Musical, tells the story of Danny and Sandy; one is a cool rebel, the other a good girl. After falling in love over the summer, their worlds collide when she is transferred to the same high school. What then ensues is an adventure of heartbreak, first love, dancing and triumph. Grease is the sleep-over movie, date movie and even sing along on your own movie. Grease will never go out of style or lose popularity; it will always truly be The Word.
