Here’s what happened during the first week of 2012…
- Rising star Benedict Cumberbatch is to be Star Trek 2’s baddie. Long thought to be played by Benicio Del Toro, the identity of the villian is yet to be confirmed.
- Despite its less than amazing performance at the box office (we say that but it’s still making millions), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will get its sequel. Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig will most likely appear in the second adaptation The Girl Who Played With Fire.
- Bob Anderson died this week aged 89. The sword master worked on Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings.
- Despite complaints about the audio quality of The Dark Knight Rises’ trailer, Warner Bros are not thought to be pursuing an audio tweak.
- Lastly, it appears it wasn’t Harry Potter or Transformers people most wanted to see last year. Fast Five, the fifth in the Fast and Furious franchise, was the most illegally downloaded film last year. Thor and The Hangover Part II were also in the top three.
