I have to start by saying that the new Spiderman: Homecoming (2017) trailer is amazing, this is what we need from ol Webhead’s reboot. It is exciting and hopefully will create a new Spiderman franchise that actually has longevity, and with the MCU behind it, it probably will.
But rejoice true believers, more news has come out of the woodwork about the Venom solo movie! Whilst there is still very little light being shed on the development, story and even direction the villain-centered movie is going to take, I think we can all agree that it is about time. After the last incarnation of everyone’s favourite symbiote in the god-awful Spiderman 3 (2007), it has just been a matter of time until he reared his ugly head again.
In an interview with Fandango, director of the upcoming Spidey film Jon Watts said: “It’s not. It’s not connected to the Marvel world, so that’s really intriguing… what that will be.”
“It’s not connected, so there’s not that overlap.”
The film is slated to release in theaters on October 5 2018, which really isn’t that far away at all.
Before this confirmation (well, if you believe it) there were talks from the team behind the recently-released Ryan Reynolds movie Life that their film may be a secret prequel to Venom. This must be taking with a pinch of salt the size of a football (English, not American) but wouldn’t that be awesome?
Even though there hasn’t been much said about Venom, apparently it is moving towards an R rating (after Deadpool and Logan the MCU really are keen on attracting older viewers) and may take the form of some sort of horror movie.
Watch this space.
