Dark Souls: The Board Game, launched on Kickstarter last night, achieving its £50,000 goal in just three minutes.
In an update on the Kickstarter page by creator, Steamforged Games, they said: “Amazing guys! Funded in 3 Minutes!!! The journey has just begun – what an amazing start. Stretch goals update coming soon seems several have already been smashed!”
Steamforged games struck while the iron is hot by launching their Kickstarter campaign at the same time as Dark Souls III (2016), potentially the last in the fantasy RPG series by From Software, was released worldwide on 12th April 2016.
On the Kickstarter campaign website, Steamforged Games describe it as being: “A strategically challenging, deeply immersive combat exploration game for 1-4 players set in the Dark Souls™ universe. Players choose from a number of core character classes and explore dangerous locations full of monsters, treasures, and deadly boss fights.
Designed specifically for the Dark Souls™ universe and introducing a number of innovative gameplay mechanics, with world-class miniatures faithful to the rich universe, this game delivers an experience that captures the very essence of the original video games.”
The game will be playable in co-op or solo mode with players being able to choose from a slew of character classes, as they can in the video game.
According to Videogamer.com, the stretch goals Steamforged Games referenced will be unlocked every for £20,000 raised until the £500,000 mark is achieved. Following this, a new unlock will become available every £25,000 until £1 million. One future stretch goal will introduce a full expansion to the core Kickstarter pledge.
The Kickstarter campaign will finish on 16th May 2016 at 7:59pm BST, and as of writing, has 8,285 backers and raised £707,311.
