Quantum Break (2016) is Microsoft Studio’s best-selling new IP of this generation, according to Microsoft.
It has had a more successful launch than Insomniac Entertainment’s Sunset Overdrive (2014) and Crytek’s Ryse: Son of Rome (2013), two of Microsoft’s other IPs released exclusively for the Xbox One.
This is the first time a Microsoft exclusive has been at the top of the UK sales charts since Halo 5: Guardians (2015) was released in November last year.
Developed by Remedy Entertainment, best known for their work on the Max Payne franchise, Quantum Break is a third-person shooter that features time-warping mechanics.
Speaking to Gamespot, Jon Edney of Xbox Studios said: “We’re delighted that Quantum Break has been so well received by fans and critics, it’s a testament to the hard work, ambition and commitment of the team at Remedy that the game is already surpassing expectations.”
The margins for taking the top spot were fine, with Quantum Break just beating Codemasters’ Dirt Rally (2016) by 139 units, although it is worth mentioning that Dirt Rally came out for both PC and Xbox One and PS4, whereas Quantum Break was an Xbox One exclusive title.
