After much speculation and doubtless many debates in bars across the globe, we finally have a chance to see if the girls really can do it as well as the boys because the trailer for this year’s reboot of Ghostbusters has arrived! And on this evidence, it looks as if Paul Feig‘s daring twist on the original formula may well have nailed it, as the blend of modern cinema with a dash of 80s looks to be every inch a smash.
So it would seem that Dan Aykroyd may well have been onto something when he heaped praise on the Bridesmaids director’s efforts last year, saying: “In a way, his movie might be a little better than the first two because they can do more – CGI might be a little better. But also, you know, there might be more jokes in it. I’m really happy with what I’m seeing.”
Whether the latter part of that statement will be proven right remains to be seen. What is for sure is that the all-female ‘busters, consisting of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, look to be a suitable combination of cool, wise-cracking and geeky, whilst all the ghouls, goo and gadgets have managed to maintain some of the spirit of the 1984 classic even with the CGI – a success story in itself.
It was confirmed recently by one of the movie’s male stars, Michael K. Williams, that Slimer would definitely be making an appearance. We’re happy to report that Spook Central’s greediest resident is up there in all his ghostly green glory (albeit for just a few seconds in the trailer) and it will be interesting to see how much of a part he has to play. Perhaps we should trust Feig when he says: “You know the things you love the most. Let’s just say they show up in one way or another. And hopefully in ways that are surprising.”
Looking at the trailer, there’s nothing to substantiate the rumours that the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, could be popping up in a cameo, but it all adds to the anticipation surrounding the big release date of July 15. In the meantime, why not have a watch and let us know what you think?
