Besiktas have agreed a deal with Manchester United over goalkeeper Victor Valdes, it has emerged.
Valdes, 33, has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and was subsequently left out of the team’s pre-season tour of the United States earlier this summer.
According to sources, the final decision (regarding the transfer) rests with Besiktas manager Senol Gunes and talks over personal terms will only take place once a verdict is reached.
The former Barcelona shot-stopper will be eager to put his miserable stay in Manchester behind him, where he only made two appearances last term. United manager Louis van Gaal deemed Valdes surplus to requirements after the goalkeeper supposedly refused to play for the Under 21’s and has voiced his desire for the player to find a new club.
If (as is widely expected) the transfer goes through, Valdes will be joining former United team-mates Robin van Persie and Nani in Turkey – albeit at rival teams.
Valdes’ departure will leave van Gaal with only two match-fit goalkeepers in Sergio Romero and Sam Johnstone, with David de Gea not currently being selected due to on-going negotiations over a possible move to Real Madrid.
