Rise of the Tomb Raider will in-fact come to PlayStation 4 and PC following the highly controversial decision to release the game exclusively on Xbox.
Square Enix announced today that the sequel to their 2013 Tomb Raider title will come to both PlayStation 4 and PC but it won’t happen until 2016.
Whilst no official dates have been revealed, the studio said the PC edition would be released in early 2016 whilst the PS4 edition would be released in the 2016 holidays.
The announcement confirms Xbox head Phil Spencer’s previous comments, in which he said the exclusivity was actually a timed exclusive.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will launch for Xbox 360 and Xbox One on November 13th, 2015.
The exclusivity has caused enormous controversy since it was first announced last year.
When news broke of the title’s exclusivity, fans took to social media with many blasting the decision, some even citing the game’s birth on PlayStation.
Crystal Dynamics’ Head of Studios, Darrell Gallagher, took to Tumblr shortly after to defend the decision.
The President of Sony Worldwide Studios later said he “hopes” the title will eventually come to PlayStation 4.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is set following the events of Tomb Raider and follows Lara Croft as she must use her survival skills, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider.
Lara will also travel across the world, visiting locations filled with exploration spaces.
Camilla Luddington, who portrayed Croft in Tomb Raider, will reprise her role whilst Rhianna Pratchett will also return as the writer.
Some of the game’s features include Lara’s ability to hunt animals to craft weapons, scale trees, and dive underwater to avoid or takedown enemies. Players can also configure Lara’s gear, weapons, and ammo to fit their style.
“Bigger and better than ever” tombs, littered with deadly traps, will be featured in the game for players to explore and solve dramatic environmental puzzles, and decipher ancient texts to reveal crypts.
Some new screenshots were released last month.
