The first teaser trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron is finally online and it is full of interesting scenes. The trailer was apparently leaked a few days ago prompting Marvel to release the official trailer ahead of schedule.
In this sequel the Avengers take on a sophisticated and powerful robot called Ultron (voiced by James Spader) who was created by Tony Stark. Ultron is a high tech artiifical intelligence program with a god complex. He also shares some aspects of Stark’s personality albeit probably all the bad ones. Somehow he manages to create a robot body for himself and then he goes on the rampage. That is the basic plot but there are plenty of scenes in the trailer that show there’s a lot more going on in the film.
During the trailer the Hulk and Iron Man are shown having a punch up for unknown reasons. Tony Stark is wearing a huge Iron Man suit known as “Hulk Buster” armor during these scenes. Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk is shown looking distressed a few times during the trailer so he is obviously having some kind of internal conflict. His ability to control The Hulk has always been tenuous at best. Most of the old cast members make an appearance including Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye and Nick Fury.
Some new characters are also shown including Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver played by Elizabeth Olson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The former has telekinetic powers and the latter can move at lightning speeds like The Flash. Andy Serkis also appears briefly and rumours state that he is playing a character called Ulysses Klaw. Klaw is the enemy of another Avengers character from the comics called Black Panther. This is interesting as it means the film may introduce Black Panther at some stage or set the stage for him to appear in a future film. Paul Bettany will appear in the film too as The Vision, a powerful android who is rumoured to be another Tony Stark creation. He doesn’t appear in the trailer surprisingly but he becomes a member of the Avengers during the film. Cobie Smoulders, Don Cheadle, Thomas Kretschmann, Hayley Atwell and Stellan Skarsgård will also reprise their roles as characters from various Marvel films.
The trailer has plenty of spectacle and also a rather dark tone. The stakes seem to be even higher in this sequel and the Avengers will certainly be busy trying to save the world again. It’s an effective trailer but also a little confusing and some viewers may be baffled by all the random events on show. The trailer creates a good buzz though and it gives viewers a lot to talk about.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released on April 24th in the UK and May 1st in the US. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
