Two of the Emerald Isle’s elite are set to join forces to make a movie. Full-time action hero Liam Neeson and U2 frontman Bono are writing a script together, for a film about the Irish showband movement of the 1970s.
It covers a lesser-known era when Irish rock and pop acts toured the country playing international hits.
It is thought that the project has been in the pipeline for a while now, as the pair go back a long way. Neeson said: “We chat, or with him a lot of the time I just listen. He’s a wonderful man. He’s got an idea for a script which we’ve been working on for the past six years.”
While he has a string of hits to his name, this would be the veteran actor’s first foray into screenwriting. However, you’d be brave to bet against the big man pulling it off. Bono has a completely different string of hits to his name, but is no stranger to the world of movies, having penned songs for flicks such as Batman Forever and the theme for Goldeneye.
It makes a change for Bono not to be in the news for a certain album being automatically uploaded to a certain model of phone. It makes even more of a change for Neeson not be talked about in action movie terms – but guess what? That’s exactly what we’re going to do! It looks as though the curtain could finally be coming down on the Taken franchise with the third instalment, due out in January: “I think this is the end,” the 62-year-old said recently.
There are no other details to report on the Neeson-Bono collaboration as yet, particularly with regards as to whether or not Neeson himself will take a starring role. On that note, what price Bono making his big-screen debut?
