It’s looking like the Coen Brothers’ Hail Caesar! will be getting a stellar cast all in one go, as the Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum and Ralph Fiennes are all in talks for roles.
George Clooney will be starring as Eddie Mannix, who was vice president of MGM and a Hollywood ‘fixer’, charged with keeping the studio’s contracted stars from getting out of line, among other things.
Tatum will apparently be playing a ‘Gene Kelly-type star’, while Fiennes is in line for the role of director Laurence Lorenz. Swinton will play renowned Hollywood muck-raker Hedda Hopper.
Also set to star is Josh Brolin, who will play Mannix’s partner in crime Howard Strickling, head of publicity for MGM from the 1920s to the late 1950s. A book about the pair by E. J. Fleming titled The Fixers: Eddie Mannix, Howard Strickling and the MGM Publicity Machine came out in 2004.
It is thought that the film will be a classically comedic period piece from the Coens, who will be sharing writing and directing duties.
Hail Caesar! is expected to begin filming this year and will likely be released in 2015.
