Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past six months or so, you’ll know that Ben Affleck has been cast in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice to play an even more grizzled and disillusioned older version of the Dark Knight. Now the Latino Review is reporting the rumour that he will also be starring in a solo Batman film.
This news comes just after a bit of noise about the Hulk possibly maybe actually getting his own film too, so who knows, this could be the start of a huge splinter movement for DC and Marvel heroes both. Or it could just be the Hollywood rumour mill jumping on the bandwagon, so we’re not going to get too excited about it all just yet.
Either way, the rumour provides the possible Batman film with both a title and a release date; if it happens, the word is that the film will be called The Batman, and will be released at some point in 2019, with production taking place in 2017/18, once all the excitement from Batman V Superman and the planned Justice League movie has died down a tad. The Batman seems like a pretty dull and unassuming title, until you say it to yourself in a croaky Heath Ledger’s Joker type drawl; then it starts to make a lick of sense.
The Latino Review also suggests the possibility that Affleck could be in line to direct the movie as well, which isn’t that far fetched when you consider that Affleck’s Argo absolutely raked in the awards like plucking cherries from a low hanging branch.
We’re not likely to have any of this confirmed for quite some time, if it ever gets confirmed at all, but it’s certainly something to think about as the DC-verse continues to evolve.
