Sony Pictures are to develop a hybrid/live action and CG-animated feature film based on the Sonic The Hedgehog series, according to Deadline.
Sony, along with Marza Animation Planet, a SEGA company, is planning to release a movie based on the historic franchise once a year.
Scripted by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, the film will revolve around the rivalry between Sonic and Dr. Eggmann, as well as other characters from the series.
“There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic The Hedgehog, and a built-in international fan base,” said Hannah Minghella, Production President for Sony Pictures.
“Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wide than ever before.”
Marza CEO, Masanao Maeda, said: “Sony Pictures has had great success with hybrid animated and live-action features, and we’re confident that this collaboration will bring a fresh new take to Sonic, while still capturing everything that the fans love about him.”
Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz, under his Original Film banner, will produce it.
Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi of Marza Animation Planet will also produce whilst Tob Ascher will serve as an Executive Producer.
