Those pesky Pitts are hogging the headlines yet again, this time with Angelina Jolie hinting that she could retire from acting after the completion of Queen of the Nile, in which she will play Cleopatra.
Yes, you read it right, Hollywood without the fairer half of Brangelina, although the screen siren still intends to carry on with her new venture into directing. Well, it’s better than nothing.
Seemingly unsatisfied with Maleficent sweeping all before it, the most famous Lara Croft of them all has suggested in two recent interviews that it could well be time to pack it all in – or at least devote more time to humanitarian work and spend more time behind the camera.
Last month she stated: “I would like to focus more on writing and directing and above all I would like to focus more on my work with the UN.” She also said, while speaking about playing Cleopatra: “It’s one of those where you think maybe that’s the one you put everything into and that’s where you finish.”
On that bombshell, is there anything else that could have given rise to this seismic decision? With the marriage to Brad comes the not insignificant commitment of no less than six kiddies. Oh yes, devoted family woman that she is, you’d better believe that this is the same young actress who burst on to the scene back in 1999 in Girl, Interrupted.
After that show-stopping performance, the offers came pouring in. Tomb Raider was a famous one of course, with Alexander, Mr and Mrs Smith, Changeling and (unfortunately) Wanted all maintaining the A-list status Ms Jolie has enjoyed for well over a decade now.
So, Angelina, good luck in whatever you decide to do, but 37 still sounds a little young to be contemplating retirement. We just hope you’ve saved enough pennies.
