Harrison Ford approached for Blade Runner 2

A sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic Blade Runner has been in the pipeline for quite some time, and now Alcon Entertainment have publicly approached Harrison Ford to reprise his starring role of Deckard, hunter of rogue replicants.

Producers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove released a joint statement.

“We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time,” they said. “We would be honoured, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project.”

The 71 year old Ford is quite the busy bee at the moment, what with agreeing to return to his most famous role ever (that of Han Solo the space smuggler/galactic hero) for the new Star Wars sequel, which has just begun filming.

Ford signing up for Blade Runner 2 would certainly lend it some gravitas, but whether or not he will take the bait remains to be seen. The sequel is again being helmed by Uncle Ridley, which hopefully means that that the gritty neo-noir aesthetic that turned the first film into such a cult classic will be retained.

A Blade Runner sequel without Harrison Ford would presumably be very different than one with him. Half of us would love to see Deckard return – after all, the ending of the first film left us with a couple of important unanswered questions (what happened to Deckard and Rachael after they drove into the sunset? And is Deckard actually a replicant?). But the other half wants to leave it all a tantalising mystery.
