New has broken that Ridley Scott’s untitled Prometheus sequel has acquired a new writer, and possibly also a couple of extra Michael Fassbenders.
Michael Green has been hired to rewrite the script for the film currently being referred to as Prometheus 2 (the original draft was written by Jack Paglen). Green co-wrote Green Lantern, and has also been working with Scott on his untitled Blade Runner sequel, which has been in the works for some time.
Prometheus 2 will follow Prometheus, Scott’s fairly underwhelming ‘not a prequel’ prequel to Alien, the director’s classic sci-fi horror released in 1979. The end of Prometheus saw the only two surviving characters, archaeologist Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and android David (Fassbender) jet off in search of the homeworld of the engineers, the species that apparently created humanity.
The story arcs in the Alienverse are already tangled beyond belief, and it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better. However, there are a couple of reasons to be cautiously hopeful; according to the Wrap, Prometheus 2 ‘aims to be much more alien-y’, and will also feature multiple David androids. Considering that Fassbender was the best thing about Prometheus, jamming even more of him into the sequel seems like a good plan.
Rumours suggest that production on Prometheus 2 is slated to begin this autumn, once Scott is done with his biblical epic Exodus.
