Several staff members at Sony’s Santa Monica Studios have been laid off, Sony has confirmed.
Earlier today, a report surfaced on IGN that, according to their sources, several staff members had been laid off and one of the games that the studio had been working on could possibly be cancelled.
It’s currently unclear what the possibly cancelled title could be. Back in August, Sony said that their Santa Monica Studios and Naughty Dog were working on unannounced PS4 titles.
Following the report, Sony confirmed the news to IGN, with a statement that read: “SCEA can confirm that we have completed a reduction in workforce at Santa Monica Studio. This is a result of a cycle of resource re-alignment against priority growth areas within SCE WWS. We do not take these decisions lightly.
“However, sometimes it is necessary to make changes to better serve the future projects of the studio. We have offered outplacement services and severance packages to ease transition for those impacted.”
Sony Santa Monica were the developers of the God of War series and collaborated with Ready at Dawn for the upcoming The Order: 1886.
We’ve reached out to Sony asking about the possibility of the cancelled game – so far, no word back.
