Enemy is a new film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Denis Villeneuve who also directed Prisoners with Hugh Jackman. It’s an unusual psychological thriller with an interesting plot and now a new trailer for the film is online.
Gyllenhaal plays an unassuming professor called Adam Bell who discovers one day that he has a doppelganger called Anthony St. Claire (also played by Gyllenhaal.) St. Claire is the spitting image of Adam Bell and he also has the same voice which is eerie. Bell then tries to figure out who this person is and he starts to grow increasingly paranoid in the process. It is unclear whether the doppelganger is a real person or just a figment of Bell’s imagination. No doubt the feature film will shed some light on this when it is released.
Enemy is based on a book written by José Saramago and it features a great supporting cast including Mélanie Laurent, Isabella Rossellini and Sarah Gadon. It is always nice to see a veteran actress like Rossellini in a film as she doesn’t appear in movies that often nowadays. Jake Gyllenhaal is also well cast here as he is good at playing troubled characters who may or may not be losing the plot.
The trailer is really effective as it establishes tension with creepy music and good performances from the main cast members shown. The viewer is given the impression that something is very wrong with the situation Adam Bell finds himself in and he may be in danger. It’s a trailer that makes the viewer feel uneasy without giving away too much about the film. There is one shot towards the end where Bell is walking down a corridor while a creepy looking monster appears to be walking in the opposite direction on the ceiling. This shot is really weird and like something out of a David Lynch movie which makes the film even more intriguing.
Interested fans can find answers to this mystery when the film is released in the US from March 14th. The film will also get a UK release sometime in the first half of 2014. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts.
