Sony Computer Entertainment’s former CEO is to be honoured at the upcoming Game Developers Choice Awards.
Ken Kutaragi, referred to as the “Father of the PlayStation”, and now CEO of Cyber AI Entertainment, will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony taking place on March 19th in San Francisco.
Launching his career as a Sony Engineer, he developed the SPC700 sound chip for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, later becoming the Lead Engineer and worked on creating the very first Sony PlayStation console, selling over 100 million units.
In 2003, Ken became the Deputy Executive President, overseeing the launch of the PlayStation 3, and in 2007 became the Honorary Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment.
“The PlayStation has become a household name, representing some of the biggest and best gaming experiences of all time. Its success and longevity is a reflection of the insight, craft, technical prowess and hard work of the team led by Kutaragi-san, the father of the PlayStation,” said Meggan Scavio, General Manager of all GDC events.
“We’re honored to have Kutaragi-san present at the event, and heartened to recognize a true visionary that helped bring about an unparalleled era of growth in the industry.”
