[dropcap]U[/dropcap]bisoft was the best publisher of the year for video games, according to Forbes.
The magazine gave the Gold Medal to Ubisoft, who publishes such games as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, Rayman Legends, Splinter Cell, amongst others. They are also set to release the highly anticipated hacker-thriller Watch Dogs game in 2014.
Most recently the company launched Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag which garnered worldwide critical acclaim and was nominated for several Game of the Year awards. It was voted as Best Xbox One and PS4 Game by Gamespot and won the Best Action-Adventure Game at the Spike TV VGX Awards earlier this month.
Calling Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon “one of the best games of the year”, Forbes explained its decision, saying: “A really impressive year for Ubisoft both in terms of quality releases and unshackled creativity. If anything, Ubisoft has shown a willingness to evolve as a company, going so far as to delay two big games—South Park: The Stick of Truth and Watch Dogs—into 2014 to make sure they met quality standards.”
Whilst Ubisoft went home with Gold, Grand Theft Auto V’s makers Rockstar Games went home with Bronze for it’s phenomenally successful launch of GTA V.
Nintendo ended up going home with Silver mainly for its critically acclaimed launches of Super Mario 3D World – which earned nominations for Game of the Year, won Best Nintendo Game at the VGX Awards and won for Best Wii U Game by Gamespot – on the Wii U and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on 3DS – which won Best Handheld Game at the VGX Awards recently, surprisingly, beat Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us to be crowned Game of the Year by Gamespot.
