[dropcap]E[/dropcap]A’s long battle to regain the christmas number one spot has finally paid off with Fifa 14 beating stiff competition from Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Since 2008, EA have been chasing the number one spot from the war-action-thriller Call of Duty franchise who have rained supreme with the likes of Modern Warfare, Black Ops and Black Ops II. EA last claimed the number one spot with Fifa 09.
This year however the tide swiftly changed and Fifa 14 outsold Ghosts by 17,000 units, earning EA the 14th time they have claimed the number one spot since the video game charts launched.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag rose from number 5 to 3rd place whilst Battlefield 4 remained at number 4. Grand Theft Auto just narrowly missed out on 5th place, losing to Lego Marvel Super Heroes by just 400 sales, and claimed number 6 on the chart.
Whilst increasing in sales by 18%, Just Dance 2014 dropped down to 7th place and Need for Speed: Rivals slipped to number 8. Killzone: Shadow Fall took 9th place and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition beat Gran Turismo 6 for the 10th spot due to a 24% rise in sales.
Gran Turismo took 11th place whilst Warner Bros’ Montreal’s Batman: Arkham Origins went home with 12th place. Skylanders Swapforce came 13th whilst WWE’s new partnership with 2K Sports for WWE 2k14 earned them number 14. Forza Motorsport 5 beat Disney Infinity, who settled for 16th place, for the 15th spot.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf came 17th, Football Manager 2014 claimed the 18th spot and Angry Bird: Star Wars won number 19th whilst Aliens: Colonial Marines came last at number 20.
