[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ans of the Batman comics and films will be pleased to know Commissioner Gordon is getting his own live-action TV show. According to Deadline there was a huge bidding war for the show and FOX ended up getting the series. The show will be called Gotham and FOX are confident about its potential, they are bypassing the pilot stage completely and going straight into production of the full series.
Gotham will focus on Gordon when he was a young man and “the villains that made Gotham famous.” Unfortunately Batman will not be a part of the series as the show takes place before Gordon met the caped crusader. The writer, Bruno Heller is no doubt keen to make sure Gordon’s role isn’t overshadowed by Batman’s presence in the show.
The Commissioner was always played by an older actor (most recently Gary Oldman) in the movies and the old TV show; it will be interesting to see a younger actor take on the role for a change.
The series is scheduled to air sometime next year, so eager fans should look out for it.
