[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here’s a rumour circulating on the internet that Bryan Cranston will appear as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2. The actor has received critical acclaim for his role as the drug dealer Walter White in AMC’s Breaking Bad TV show. If the rumour is true then Cranston will be a great addition to the film and an excellent Lex Luthor. The character has been previously played by both Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey.
Apparently the actor has signed a deal to appear in six movies as Luthor; this would mean the movie studios and DC comics are planning a plethora of comic book movies in the future. They are no doubt keen to capitalize on the current popularity of superhero movies thanks to the Dark Knight series and Marvel’s Avengers, Iron Man, etc. Comic book fans have never had it so good!
Cranston plays great villains, and he won three Emmy Awards for his role as Walter White. He also played the main bad guy in the Total Recall remake. His role in Man of Steel 2 would also reunite him with Ben Affleck, who will play Batman in the film; the two appeared together previously in Argo.
Lex Luthor is a wealthy, power-mad industrialist and arch-nemesis of Superman. The fact that he is human is also interesting as he cannot rely on superpowers to get things done. The character has appeared in the Superman comics for decades, and he is well known to both comic and movie fans.
The film starts shooting next year and will be released in 2015.
