The Twitter-sphere has already confirmed that Jamie Foxx will be starring as supervillain Electro in the upcoming superhero sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, however it now seems that Marvel thought they were being a little too easy on the masked menace.
Actor/stuntman Asim Ahmad has confirmed on Twitter that he has been tapped as the villainous vampire Morbius. However when fans pressed him for more information, he said: “Morbius is only mentioned in two pages, not a big part”. He also added that he’ll appear on screen as the character for about two minutes and will shoot the scene on the Sony lot in California in February. After previously working for Marvel Comics, he progressed to helping re-write screenplays based on Marvels characters including Blade, X-Men, Daredevil and even his yet-to-be nemesis Spider-Man. He also had minor roles in Fright Night and The Dark Knight.
Morbius, originally known as Dr. Michael Morbius Ph.D, was a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 published in October 1971. After attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease with an experimental treatment involving bats (surprise surprise), Morbius becomes a vampire-like being with various abilities and an inconvenient thirst for blood.
The sequel sees Marc Webb return to the director’s chair, while stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively. Shailene Woodley and Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan have just been cast as Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn respectively. Additionally, Martin Sheen confirmed that he would reprise his role as Uncle Ben despite the character meeting his demise in the first film.
The sequel will arrive in UK on 18th April 2014.
